An ash vacuum for fireplaces, stoves and grills

Shovel the Ash.
Breathe the Ash.

You know the routine. You scoop the ash into a bucket, and a fine gray cloud rises out of the firebox. It drifts across the room, settles on the mantel, the floor and the sofa, and some of it ends up in the air your family breathes.

MENDTIDE vacuums the ash straight into a steel drum and keeps it there. You get a clean hearth in minutes, without the cloud.

Why Not Just Use Your Shop Vac?

It’s the first thing most people try. But shop vacs and household vacuums are built for sawdust and dirt, and their filters can’t hold back the finest ash. It slips right through and blows out the exhaust, back into your room.

Some fireplace owners end up parking the shop vac outside and running a long hose through the door, just to keep the dust out of the house. And fireplace ash can hide embers you can’t see, the last thing you want landing in a plastic tank.

Comparison chart: a typical shop vac blows fine ash back into the room and has a plastic tank, while MENDTIDE keeps fine ash inside a steel drum

So Where Does All That Ash Go?

Into the drum, and it stays there. Heavy ash drops to the bottom of the 20 L drum. The air that’s left passes through a washable cloth filter bag, then a pleated filter, before it reaches the motor. Only filtered air comes out the top.

Cutaway of the MENDTIDE ash vacuum: heavy ash settles in the drum, a washable cloth bag and a pleated filter trap fine ash, and filtered air leaves the top

Keep the suction strong

Fine ash is tough on any filter. Tap the pleated filter clean after each use, empty the drum before it’s full, and wash the cloth bag when it gets dusty. Let it dry completely before you put it back, because a damp filter clogs fast.

Easy to Grab.
Easy to Empty.

A painted steel drum, two metal toggle clamps and an aluminum wand. When the drum is full, unclip the lid, lift off the motor head and empty the ash outside. Then carry it back in by the top handle.

Works Wherever You Burn

Fireplaces, wood stoves, pellet stoves, pellet grills, fire pits and charcoal grills. If it leaves ash behind, MENDTIDE cleans it up.

Tips from fellow owners

  • Pellet stove: at the end of the season, vacuum out the leftover pellets so they don’t soak up moisture and jam the auger next fall.
  • Pellet grill: vacuum the fire pot every few cooks so ash doesn’t build up.

Clean Out the Firebox in 4 Steps

  1. Check for embers

Stir the ash with a poker. Warm ash is fine; if anything still glows or smokes, wait.

  2. Vacuum

Switch on and run the wand through the firebox, the grate and the hearth.

  3. Empty outside

Unclip the latches, lift off the motor head and tip the ash into a metal can outdoors.

  4. Tap the filter

Tap the filter clean so it’s ready for next time.

Warm ash is fine. Live embers are not.

MENDTIDE handles cold and warm ash up to 104°F (40°C), so you don’t have to wait for it to go stone cold. Embers can hide under the surface, so stir the ash before you vacuum. If anything is still glowing, smoking or burning, wait until it’s out. Never vacuum live embers, hot coals or burning wood.

Questions Before You Buy

Can it handle hot ash?

Warm ash, yes: it handles ash up to 104°F (40°C), so you don’t have to wait for it to go stone cold, and the steel drum won’t melt like a plastic tank. Live embers, hot coals and burning wood should never go into any vacuum, so if anything is still glowing or smoking, wait until it’s out.

How is it different from my shop vac?

A typical shop vac’s filter lets the finest ash slip through and blow out the exhaust. MENDTIDE traps it with two stages of filtration and collects it in a steel drum made for fireplace ash.

Will fine ash leak back out?

The cloth filter bag and the pleated filter catch it before the air reaches the motor. Keep both filters clean and properly seated, and only filtered air comes out the top.

Does it lose suction over time?

Every vacuum loses suction when its filter clogs, and fine ash clogs filters fast. The cloth bag catches most of the dust first to protect the pleated filter. Tap the filter after each use and wash the bag when it gets dusty.

How do I clean the filters?

Tap or shake the pleated filter outdoors. The cloth bag is washable and reusable. Let it dry completely before you put it back.

What else can I use it for?

Wood stoves, pellet stoves, pellet grills, fire pits and charcoal grills, plus dry dust and debris in the garage or workshop. It’s for dry use only, so keep it away from liquids.

Will it work with my outlets?

Yes. It’s a 110V / 60 Hz model with a standard US plug.

What if it’s not right for me?

Try it on your next cleanup. If it’s not right for you, you have 30 days to return it, and shipping in the US is free.
